Platform Integration, Tuning and Enhancement
In our experience, most new products require some low-level software tuning and integration with the hardware to deliver the desired features and performance. Tuning enables you to do more with less hardware. Tuning and enhancing even a simple product can improve your margins and market success.
Common software enhancements we make include a custom application launcher, custom file manager, integrated network connection manager, touchscreen support, localization, support for input devices, custom desktop appearance, low-level power management, hardware accelerated multimedia and integration of capabilities like wireless networking, GPS and Bluetooth.

CNR.com is our platform that enables you to create branded storefronts with full e-commerce to serve multiple device types, regardless of hardware or operating system. CNR is available separately or as an integrated part of our software stack.
With CNR you can consolidate all your existing application stores and marketplaces into one centrally managed platform. You also gain control of the software lifecycle of all devices and applications in your ecosystem through centrally-managed software updates. Other powerful features of CNR to drive device commerce include revenue sharing, user forums and ratings, content self-publishing, rights management, DRM support, and much more.
Powerful Applications
Often the features you need to make your next-generation device stand out aren’t available off the shelf—or everyone would have them already. Our custom applications fill the gap.
For example, Xandros PIM is the first ActiveSync-enabled email, calendaring, contacts and taks application designed specifically for the small screens of netbooks and touchscreen devices. It enables push email to Intel and ARM-based devices and works with Microsoft Server 2007. Other standout features include tight workflow integration with social networking services like Facebook and Skype.
Our support for Android, Moblin, and Windows means that there are thousands of free and commercial applications to choose from. If you don’t see what you need, we can adapt or create a solution for you.
Custom User Interfaces
From embedded appliances like digital picture frames, to full-featured desktops on next-generation mobile devices, we create user interfaces that have intuitive and attractive workflows. You can either give us a UI specification to build, or we can work with you to create a branded design targeted to your markets.
UI options include support for single and multi-touch screens, simplified and traditional Chinese input methods, localization for 24+ languages including right-to-left, multiple screen sizes and resolutions, and use cases ranging from handheld to automotive to desktop.
Dual-Boot and Instant On Desktops
Xandros Presto is our software utility for Windows that enables users to get online fast without having to wait for Windows to start. Presto is also available as a brandable and customizable standalone desktop. Software delivery methods include downloadable software utility for Windows, live image on disk or flash drive, and factory installable image.
Presto includes your choice of bundled applications (such as browser, instant messaging and Skype), custom links to your online services, and a branded application store and marketplace built on our CNR.com platform. However you choose to configure it, Presto is perfect for turning low cost or limited hardware into a fast and useful internet appliance tied to your brand.
Automated 3G/4G Wireless Activation
Our partnership with Synchronoss enables us to provide the first automated 3G/4G wireless activation for netbooks. A Synchronoss activation widget is integrated with our netbook software so that right out of the box, users can quickly and easily choose and configure a data plan. Since all the plan details and steps are preconfigured at the factory, netbook retailers do not have to stock different models for different plans, and they do not need to manage any of the activation process.
Our integrated netbook activation solution eliminates sales channel costs and makes it easy to gain subscribers on new devices.
