Starting with Android, Moblin v2 or our own Moblin v2-compliant platform, we can tune, enhance and brand a full custom user experience for your Intel or ARM-based netbook, nettop, or embedded device.
Typical enhancements include:
Branded and customized application stores and marketplaces are also available for any target platform you choose, whether from Xandros or a third party.
Moblin V2 Compliance
We’ve worked closely with Intel to implement Moblin 2 technologies for fast booting and low power consumption on x86 systems. Our Moblin v2-compliant platform supports tight integration with the Moblin user interface, multimedia capabilities and social networking features. You can choose the Moblin v2 user interface or we can create a custom user interface for you. For example, our own Presto Instant On desktop is built on Moblin technology.
Deep Arm Support
Xandros has deep expertise in developing for ARM platforms and has hosted the Debian ARM build server since 1997. Today we target ARM v7 (Cortex A8), including Qualcomm Snapdragon, Freescale i.MX51, and Texas Instruments OMAP3 platforms. Enhancements we provide include:
Options to Differentiate your Product
Our customization options fall into roughly three tiers to help you achieve a user experience that supports your product strategy.
1. Custom appearance
The fastest and cheapest customization is to put your identity on software we’ve already developed. This includes applying custom desktop wallpaper and launcher icons to match your brand, choosing standard applications, using reference hardware platforms, and localizing in any of our 24+ currently supported languages.
This approach reduces the need for custom development work—but at the expense of deep product differentiation. Many operating system vendors (OSVs) adopt this approach because it’s the easiest. However, the underlying functionality often lacks the integration or refinement needed to really drive your product’s success in an increasingly competitive market.
2. Consistent and easy user experience
Users expect that common tasks like connecting to a network or opening and printing a document work easily, reliably and consistently across applications. Likewise for supporting multiple languages and input methods across applications and seamlessly networking with Windows file systems.
Achieving these capabilities requires advanced operating system customizations that are our specialty. Unlike other OSVs, we can customize the desktop and applications to provide the required consistency and ease of use across the whole suite.
3. Full custom user experience
If you want to offer truly unique features that attract and engage customers and boost your brand, you may want to consider a full custom product. Our system design approach tightly integrates capabilities like touch-screen support or other hardware features deep into the operating system and applications. This approach is appropriate when you need to control and differentiate every aspect of the user experience in the device and across its ecosystem.
For example, we can link our ActiveSync-enabled PIM application to low-level signaling and wireless capabilities in your hardware platform so it enables users to receive email anywhere, anytime. We can also create user interfaces and task workflows that deliver powerful applications with appliance-like ease of use in embedded devices like digital picture frames.
