How Do I Create the Tech Support file?
In both Xandros Desktop Home, and Xandros Server there is a new feature to create a compressed file that include key information about your computers configuration and the log files that Xandros Technical Support requires to help troubleshoot most issues. You should include this file with any request for Technical Support to help expedite the support process. To create this file, please follow the instructions below.
1. Launch the Control Center by clicking “Control Centre”
from the Control Centre menu on the Launch menu.
2. Next expand the Hardware Information branch and select Hardware Detection
of the Left Hand Tree.
3. Click the “Tech Support” button on the bottom
of the right hand pane.
4. Click “OK” to create the file.
5. E-mail the xandros-config-report-x.tar.bz2 file that was placed on
your desktop to Xandros Technical Support as part of your support request.
Is there a free version available?
No, not at this time for Xandros Server 2.

4: This will bring up the installation options menu. Select the “Standard PC” option and hit enter to continue.
You can now select any partition type you wish when prompted. The install should continue with out incident.
Why can I not complete the install of a Virtual Machine under Xandros Server 2?
In Xandros Server 2, Xen binds all Virtual Machine network interfaces to Local Area Network Connection 1. (LAN1) This is usually the equivalent to eth0. Which in turn is usually considered the “external” interface. Therefore if you are trying to configure your Virtual machines to be on the same network as your Local Area Network Connection 2, you will not be able to connect to the Graphical Console of the Virtual Machine and continue the installation process.
If you want to keep your Virtual Machine on the “internal” or LAN2 connection, you will have to reconfigure the Xen Bridge interface to use the LAN2 connection. To do this, follow the instructions below.
1: Stop and delete and existing Virtual Machines from the Virtual Machine Management section of the Xandros Management Console.
2: Close xMC
3: Launch an Administrator Console Window from Launch > Applications > System > Administrator Tools > Console (Administrator) menu.
4: Stop the existing Xen Bridge interface by typing
/etc/init.d/xandros-xen-bridge stop
5: Once the interface has stopped edit the xen-bridge configuration file type kwrite on the administrator console command line.
6: Select open, from the File menu.
7: Select / from the “Look in:” drop down menu
8: Browse to /etc/default/ and select the xandros-xen-bridge file
9: Change the line
BRIDGED_CONNECTION=lan1
to
BRIDGED_CONNECTION=lan2
10: Save the file and exit.
11: Restart the xen-bridge interface by typing
/etc/init.d/xandros-xen-bridge start
12: relaunch xMC and recreate your Virtual Machines.
Now when the Virtual Machine tries to create the Graphical console it should start correctly, and you will be able to complete the installation process.
How do I fix instability on a Intel Core 2 Duo Server running the Xen enabled kernel?
The following is a workaround for when instability (system freeze up) is
experienced with the Xen kernel on Intel Duo Core processor.
You can diagnose if this is the issue before applying the workaround, by doing the following:
To diagnose:
1. Launch root Console from Launch > Applications > System > Administrator tools > Console (Administrator)
2. Run dmesg and look for entry that suggests “try “pci=routeirq”
3. Proceed to next if answer to previous step is “yes”
Next to apply the workaround, please perform the following:
Append pci=routeirq to the existing kernel:
1. Insert the Installation CD
2. Re/start computer and wait for the boot up process
3. Press
4. Select Restore Xandros, and press
5. Enter the number of your installed OS, and press
6. Enter “yes” to “Are you sure you want to restore the installation?”
7. Enter “yes” to “Do you want to change it (command line)?”
8. Append “pci=routeirq” to your current command line. For example,
enter the complete line such as:
vga=791 quiet rw acpi=on resume2=swap:/dev/mapper/XandrosVG-swap pci=routeirq
9. Press Enter
10. Enter “no” to “Do you want to change it?” if new current command line is correct.
11. Follow the prompts to complete the troubleshooting process
New OS install:
1. Insert the Installation CD
2. Re/start computer and wait for the boot up process
3. Press
4. Select option “ACPI 8 Setup (pci=routeirq)”, and press Enter
How can I remotely administer my Xandros Server 2 machine?
You can remotely administer your Xandros Server 2 server in two ways.
The first is to use the Xandros Management Console (xMC) installed on a remote Windows desktop running xMC for Windows. You can review the section on “Remote xMC Service” in the Xandros Management Console Administrators Guide for more detail on this option.
The other option is to use the NoMachine NX Server and NX Client to remotely login to the Server’s Graphical Interface.
