My guess is it just means their server is currently offline. Try it again later. (I don’t know about recently, but it used to be you could pretty much count on the server being down for at least a portion of every weekend.)

Hmmm, not sure what to tell you then. Hopefully somebody else will have an answer.

I just did a little searching, and have an idea. Apparently, the xn1 server just serves up the news and store pages for Xandros Networks. It appears that server is down, but the actual repositories, where the apps are actually stored, is still up. Let’s try something:

Open an Administrator Console: click Launch, Applications, System, Administrator Tools, Console (Administrator) and enter the Admin/root password when it asks for it. At the command prompt, enter the following command (one at a time):

apt-get update

apt-get install gksu

apt-get install synaptic

This will install Synaptic, an alternative package manager that does basically the same thing as Xandros Networks. I think Synaptic will automatically show up in the menus at Launch, Applications, System, Synaptic Package Manager. If so, just click on it to start it. If it didn’t automatically show up there, hit Alt F2 and enter synaptic in the box and click Run. You’ll have to enter the Admin/root password and Synaptic should start up. Try installing some packages with Synaptic. My guess is that you will be able to use Synaptic OK. This will confirm that the XN repositories are still running and that you are able to access them OK.

Assuming all that works, you can either continue using Synaptic instead of XN, or you can contact [email protected] and let them know of the problem.

I just tried to use XN and had much the same problem you are having. I think Xandros has a server problem.

That just means you have the CD "repository" enabled but don’t have the CD in the drive. Did you try installing anything? What happened?

I tried this morning and got the same error waited a couple of minutes and it worked so I am not sure what is going on but you may want to try a few times in a row to see if you can catch it while it’s up.

I emailed Xandros support:

Quote:
Is xn1.xandros.com down? The Xandros Networks application says it is and won’t run without it.

And got this response:

Quote:
There is a bug raised for this issue, We will let you know about the work around of this issue.

Thanks,

I’ll let you know if I hear anything more from them.

wildchildc200, the other user who has reported this problem is still having problems. You, too? See the other thread on this problem:

http://forums.xandros.com/viewtopic.php?t=38006

I have recommended to him that he contact Xandros support himself. If you want to do this too, email to [email protected] and mention support ticket #177020.

Hello,

There is a known issue with xn1.xandros.com. We are working to resolve the issue but, at this time, we have no target date for the resolution. Since we are getting many requests like this, we are closing the tickets as they do not need to remain open.

I do apologize for the inconvenience.

Best regards,
Xandros Support

I suppose that means that Xandros is willing to leave one of their flagship applications non-functional. Use Synaptic.

On the second machine I ran into a weird error pango would not compile saying glib was not available even though glib had installed fine I went back and reinstalled glib and pango installed fine. I may have goofed somewhere but just incase anyone else runs into this I threw it in here.

Next we go to mozilla.com I grabbed the latest (at this time 3.5.2) and unzipped it into /opt
Then we cd into /opt/firefox .

We need to create a script to launch the file again I had to make a couple of changes to the one from the other web site so I created FF35 and put the following into it:
