Xandros Ramps Up Performance with Release of 64-bit Xandros Server

Xandros Server Delivers Power Computing to SMBs with Support for Intel® EM64T and AMD64® Processors

New York, NY — Xandros, the leading provider of easy-to-use Linux alternatives to Windows desktop and server products, today announced that the Xandros Server now supports high-performance computing utilizing 64-bit processors from Intel and AMD. Support for Intel® EM64T and AMD64® processors will be provided to Xandros customers at no additional charge.

“The Xandros 64-bit server provides businesses with extensive room for growth by supporting powerful database systems and the option of more simultaneous users on each server. SMBs and enterprises can now enjoy high-performance computing in an easy to manage package at an affordable price,” said Andreas Typaldos, Xandros CEO. “We want to offer SMBs the same choices as big enterprises. For our customers, upgrading from 32 bit to 64 bit does not mean they have to switch to another type of server solution. They now have the option of upgrading with Xandros at no additional cost.”
Xandros Server is the first Linux server to provide a powerful platform for enterprise administrators and SMBs that have little or no Linux experience. Built on top of Debian Linux, it provides a Managed Community architechure with workflow automation that takes the guesswork and complexity out of server configuration tasks. Xandros Server presents a simplified, centralized approach to remotely administering users and services through the all-graphical Xandros Management Console (xMC). It is compatible with any existing Windows domain and networking infrastructure, offering a plug-and-play replacement to costly Windows servers.

“With 64-bit CPUs becoming ubiquitous on virtually all server platforms, we feel it is extremely important that our SMB customers enjoy the 64-bit CPU benefits out of the box without paying anything extra. The 64-bit and 32-bit versions of Xandros Server are completely interoperable and can co-exist in the same Managed Community,” said Ming Poon, Xandros VP of Product Development. “We went through extensive interoperability testing to make sure that the 64-bit version of xMC can be used to manage the 32-bit Xandros Server and vice versa, to offer complete care-free administration, regardless of the administrator’s workstation CPU.”
