"Easy to install, easy to use. Just like it should be!"

"Just install and start using it! This is Linux made for productivity."

Xandros has the power and stability of Linux, the elegance of KDE, and the simplicity of Apple's OSX. No other OS I've tried can be installed within 15 minutes and is ready to use upon first boot. Just install and start using it! This is Linux made for productivity.

"It turns out that Xandros was easier to install than Windows..."

To begin with, I am a Linux newbie. I have always wanted to work with Linux but found it very different from Windows and I don't have all of the time in the world to learn a new operating system. So I was very intrigued with the Xandros operating system. I found an old PIII Hp desktop computer that we had lying around that I have had to reload Windows a few different times on and decided to make that my test computer. It turns out that Xandros was easier to install than Windows and even supported the video card that I couldn't get to work under the Windows environment. This is a great operating system and I am considering loading the 4.0 version on my wife's laptop so that I will not have to worry adware and viruses. All that I can say is "thanks' for letting me be on the Beta testing team.

Thank you,

"This is easily the best Linux GUI "

Xandros is a Debian-based Linux desktop that works extremely well. The Xandros rework-extension of KDE is really nice. This is easily the best Linux GUI.

I have been using Xandros as my primary desktop it for several years. I've been using the Beta of V4 for 3 months and it's absolutely great. One of the great features of this distro is a complete understanding of the WinXP filesystem (yes, read/write on the Windows NFS partitions while booted from Linux) and the ability to run the Microsoft Office suite directly using a tweaked version of CrossoverOffice. The Xandros File Manager is wonderful for navigating both the local file system and networked file systems, both NFS and SMB. You need to shell out for the premium version to get some of these features. It's well worth the cost.

A standard Debian Sarge install with KDE 3.5 desktop also works okay, but the Xandros distribution is much easier to work with. They've fixed all the program interdependencies. Just stick the disk in and it will steal some partition space from Windows, install itself and come up.

"Xandros contains something for everyone!"

As a first time Xandros user but a long time Linux user, I wasn't sure what to expect from Xandros 4.0 - Xandros contains something for everyone! One of the easiest installations of any of the 100+ distributions I have tested during the last 10+ years so first time Linux users will not have any problems. Xandros is simple to configure security features using the Xandros Firewall Wizard, Xandros Anti-Virus, and System File Protector. You will never have to worry about keeping the system up to date with the Xandros Update icon notifying you of new updates. Xandros is a very stable product with the best-of-breed applications for home and business use. Even though it is Linux it has a desktop that will look familiar to Windows users. The bonus crossover office not included with other distributions that allows over 100 Microsoft Windows applications to be run in Linux without rebooting makes the cost of the distribution well worth the money.

However, all of this "easy and simplified stuff" doesn't leave Xandros lacking either. As an experienced and advanced Linux user, I was able to get right down to work and manage the 75+ Linux workstations and servers via remote ssh connections. Installing applications that are very seldom used or included with other distributions such as vmware, qemu, Webmin, and ISPConfig was a breeze and they worked perfectly. I was also able to compile commercial applications such as DemoRecorder without problems, even though it was never intended to run specifically on Xandros.

Xandros flexibility, stability, security features, and ease of use for new and advanced Linux users is exactly why I have officially selected this distribution as the desktop of choice for the Maysville Linux Users Group Business Linux Initiative, to be deployed on all home and business workstations we deploy.

"At last an alternitive to a Windows-based system that is easy enough to use."

I have purchased xandros 4.0 and am well pleased to at last have an alternitive to a Windows-based system that is easy enough to use. I view Xandros the same way i viewed AMD when they first came competitors of Intel. At last something that holds the promise of freeing me from grips of a tyrant. For too many years both Intel and Microsoft held the average personal PC owner in contempt as if they had the right to dictate when and how progress would take place. As AMD did in the processor field I am pleased Xandos/Linux appears to becoming of age and shedding light into the darkness of a Microsoft world. I look forward to a future filled with improved operating systems and freedom of choices.

Sincerly,

Eugene Boswell
