Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Is there a 64-Bit version of Xandros Server?
A: Yes. Xandros Server comes in both 32 and 64-bit versions. Both versions are included when you purchase Xandros Server, so you do not have to select a specific version at the time of purchase.
Q: On how many machines can I install Xandros Server?
A: Each copy of Xandros Server Standard Edition may be installed on a single machine with up to four processors.Q: Do virtual instances of Xandros Server require individual licenses?
A: When Xandros Server is the host operating system, you may run an unlimited number of Xandros Servers in virtual machines as guests on the server, without any additional licenses (i.e. your license for the host operating system covers the guests operating systems as well). When Xandros Server is a guest on a non-Xandros host, each virtual server must be individually licensed. For more information, please review the Xandros Server Standard Edition EULA.Q: Can I run non-Xandros operating systems virtually on Xandros Server?
A: Yes. If your server supports hardware-assisted virtualization, you can run non-Xandros operating systems virtually using the "full virtualization" option.Q: How many user licenses come with Xandros Server?
A: Xandros Server and the included Xandros services do not have any per-user licenses. This means that you can have as many users connect to the server as you like. Third party applications that are included in Xandros Server, such as Scalix Xandros Edition, Helix Streaming Media Server and BRU Backup Server do have individual user or machine licenses. Please visit each application’s product page to learn more about its respective licensing policies.Q: How does Scalix Xandros Edition compare to version available directly from Scalix?
A: Scalix Xandros Edition is based on the Scalix Enterprise Edition product, and includes all the same benefits and features. Scalix Xandros Edition includes 5 Premium User licenses (a $300 value), as well as a license for unlimited Standard Users.Scalix Xandros Edition differs from the Scalix Community Edition in a few ways. First, unlike the Community Edition, Scalix Xandros Edition includes maintenance and support for a full year from your date of purchase. Second, the Community Edition requires you to pay for all Premium Users above the initial 25. This means that 50 Premium Users on the Community Edition costs $3,600 and only $3,240 on Scalix Xandros Edition. Finally, Scalix Xandros Edition is included with and integrated into Xandros Server. With the Community Edition you must acquire a Red Hat or Novell Linux Server license and have the expertise to set up, configure and manage your OS and Scalix software.
