Integrated into Xandros Server
The benefits of the Scalix e-mail and calendaring solution really shine in Xandros Server Standard Edition. Xandros and Scalix have tightly integrated Scalix into Xandros Server. Administrators can manage Scalix entirely through the Xandros Management Console, and can automatically create a new e-mail account when adding a new Xandros Network User account. This is extremely powerful for companies that want to migrate away from Microsoft Windows Small Business Server or Exchange, but are not comfortable configuring and managing Linux servers and applications.
Standard and Premium Accounts
Scalix offers two user types: Standard and Premium Users:
Standard users gain access to a subset of Scalix functionality including e-mail, personal calendar and contacts through Scalix Web Access and Novell Evolution (on Xandros or other Linux desktops) as well as e-mail access using POP/IMAP clients. The ability to deploy standard users is ideal for cost-conscious organizations with users who do not have high-end groupware and collaboration requirements.
Premium users have access to the full benefits and functionality of the Scalix e-mail and calendaring system. The following Scalix product capabilities are available only to premium users:
- Native MS Outlook support (via MAPI)
- Group scheduling functionality including free/busy lookup in Outlook, Scalix Web Access and Evolution clients
- Access to public folders
- Group Address books and LDAP/AD user integration
- Wireless email and PIM
Scalix Xandros Edition Licensing
Scalix Xandros Edition includes five (5) Premium User Licenses (with 1 year of maintenance included) and an unlimited number of Standard users. Additional Premium user licenses may be purchased in blocks of 5 licenses for $60 per user. License fees are charged on a one-time basis for perpetual use. Xandros also charges $12 per additional premium user license for one year of maintenance. Maintenance entitles you to patches and product updates from Scalix. Maintenance is optional after the first year, and may be purchased at any time for $12 per Premium user license (If you decide to purchase maintenance after the first year, you must do so for all Premium user licenses).
Purchasing Additional Scalix Licenses
You may purchase additional Premium User licenses for your Scalix Server. Licenses are available in increments of 5, 10, 25, 50 and 100.
